Minimal. Secure.
Built from source.
GameTimeLinux is a free GNU/Linux distribution. The system builds itself from source and ships only what it needs to run, with its own init and device manager in place of systemd and udev.
What makes it different
Its own init
gtsvc: gtserviced as PID 1, gtsyslog and the gtdevd device
manager. Small, readable, written for this system.
Signed everything
Packages are signed .gtp files. Every file in a repository is covered by the signature
on its REPO.yaml, and gtpakman refuses a repository whose CRL is stale.
Layers, not clutter
The system, the 3D layer /opt/nctdisp and /opt/steam live apart, with no
global loader path into /opt — the system stays auditable.
Locked-down kernels
Signed kernel modules and the lockdown LSM, with kernel flavours made for the job: a 250 Hz
server kernel, and a low-latency -gec kernel for games.
Two editions of 0.7.7
BaseMan 0.7.7
The base system for servers: Linux 7.2.9 (s250csb: 250 Hz, container, secure boot),
gcc 16.2.0, glibc 2.44, binutils 2.47, gtsvc and the gtpakman 0.2.0 package manager.
GameTimeEdition 0.7.7
BaseMan plus the GameEdition kernel (-gec, Linux 7.2.11), 190 signed packages: Mesa
64- and 32-bit, Vulkan, Xwayland, the seat manager gtseatd, the Steam installer and
controller rules.
From image to running system
1 Download
The release image, compressed as .img.xz, with its SHA-256.
2 Write
The GameTimeLinux Disk Imager writes it to a USB disk byte for byte and reads it back.
3 Install
Boot the stick; the installer wizard asks its questions first and writes nothing until you type the disk back.
